  1. Hi,

a few years ago I built my ain electrostatic loudspeakers. They sound very detailled and bass is tight and controlled. Specially electronic, classical, jazz and acoustic music can sound very skilful. Information technology withal depends on the recording quality like dynamic range and so on. Just overall I'm very happy with my DIY stats.

Only unfortunately they don't audio that adept when listening stone and heavy (and black) metal music. I'm aware of the often (very) poor recording quality of many metal recordings. Merely when playing on my stats this seems to be pronounced.

I could add a subwoofer to give more body to the music, but equally my stats are rather big they already go deep plenty. (-3dB @forty Hz)

I'm wondering if just adding a boxed set of speakers would be a expert addition for merely listening to rock / metal music. Practise y'all recognize this problem? Does this also apply to high-end boxed speakers? (bad recordings / metal recordings having lots of baloney / compressed music sounding dull and flat?)

  2. Whats the budget on new speakers?

    Best budget option:
Dali Concept x, big but if you lot have the space. Should run $800 to 1k used.

In the 2-3 k used range youve got:
    Dali Opticon viii
    Dynaudio X44
    Martin Logan movement 60xt

The Dynaudio is probably the most accomplished across the board and gets to 27hz its also the well-nigh expensive.

Motion 60xt might be your all-time bet given you are used to the stat audio and the 60xt has the ribbon tweeter.

  3. Electrostatics usually have a wicked impedance in the high frequencies - the impedance drops, and real electric current is drawn from the amplifier.
I've heard a wide sound stage collapse considering of it. Moment Of Glory by Scorpions is one recording that does information technology - I recall information technology's the Berlin Philharmoniker that creates the problem, because of all the close mic'ed mayhem the high frequency instruments cause.

It might audio counter intuitive, only have you thought about trying to integrate a dynamic supertweeter into your setup?

  4. I take got Canton Chrono floorstanders in my environment setup and I listen to lots of rock DVD-As and SACDs (Porcupine Tree, Genesis etc.) apart from classical orchestra music. They audio superb.
  5. I've read cracking things most the JBL L100 and how it was supposedly the ideal speaker for Stone and Guitar driven music. If you accept the hazard cheque them out.
  6. I would be looking at passive JBL or EV PA speakers with subs (both with wood cabinets but) and 2 big ability amps. Or some big old Klipsch (Forte, Chorus, etc.)
  7. Klipsch Heresy 3 are crawly overall but with rock/metal are a match fabricated in heaven. Megadeth, Satriani, ZZ Top, you-proper noun-it. They exercise need a sub or ii, though, that light 12" woofer is not there for deep bass.

Classic models by JBL, Cerwin Vega, Klipsch all have good reputations for playing the music y'all like. You should exist able to get the sound you lot want at a reasonable price...
Some searching thru older threads on this forum should provide a lot of adept information.

  10. Epos Epic 5s would be excellent stone speakers - very dynamic. If you have a large plenty room, the Spatial Audio M4s are as well a expert choice.
  11. Some good info in that location... i forgot about the JBL L7...[IMG]
    Manimal and bluemooze similar this.
  12. I'd await for a used pair of Tekton Pendragons. The Tekton fans have moved on to newer models, making the Pens a deal, and they accept an affinity for rock and roll.
  13. Klipschorns, Cornwalls if you don't have the space or two corners. Tin play loud, efficient, and you lot don't need more than 50 watts of clean amplifier power and quality source components.
  14. I used to have Klipsch Cornwalls and have heard Klipschorns, both nosotros're awesome for rock, and but about anything else besides.
  15. Altec nineteen if you can find them...and with the correct electronics, set up and in the proper room (non too lively) will practice a lot more than rock and heavy metal marvelously. Same tin probable be said for Klipschorn, but I've much less feel with that speaker and then tin't comment on information technology with full confidence. Both of those models are pretty substantial in size, so accommodating them can exist tricky or impossible for well-nigh. More than common and a bit smaller (and affordable) would be Klipsch Cornwall, just that's also a pretty big cabinet. Getting into something that occupies a bit less real manor but still demonstrates the same sonic capability tin can be establish in the Chorus and Chorus II and but a bit smaller than that in the Forte and Forte II. The later versions of those two speakers use a meliorate horn design (Tractrix) than the original version (exponential horn) and as well have ameliorate LF capability with pocket-sized design changes. For something more mod, the JBL Studio 590 is definitely worth a look at the sale price of under $1k/pr.

    TESTED: Cerwin-Vega CLS-215 Loudspeaker

    SoundStage! Equipment Review - Cerwin-Vega CLS-215 Loudpeakers (12/2007)

    Inexpensive, well reviewed, plays loud/rocks.

XLS 215 and CLS 215 are pretty much the same.

  21. Metal sounds all-time with coned speakers. Acoustic suspension even better. Go a pair of restored AR4x or restore a pair yourself. If you accept lots of power the AR4x volition accept excellent imaging and deep tight bass.
  22. The factory unmodified Klipsch Forte two or 3. :) that was easy
